As specialists in veterinary dentistry, our preference is to preserve your pet’s diseased teeth whenever possible through various oral surgical techniques. Unfortunately, there are instances where saving the teeth is not feasible, necessitating the extraction of some or even all affected teeth. These conditions often include severe periodontal disease, chronic gingivitis or stomatitis, and severely fractured teeth.
Oral surgery, such as tooth extraction (exodontia), is a crucial aspect of our practice. It involves carefully removing teeth that are beyond repair due to advanced decay, extensive damage, or other irreversible conditions. This surgical procedure is performed under anesthesia to ensure your pet's comfort and safety.
In dogs, the most common reasons for tooth extraction are severe periodontal disease, which can lead to bone loss and tooth mobility, and traumatic fractures that compromise the tooth's structure. Cats, on the other hand, frequently undergo extractions due to tooth resorption—a painful condition where the tooth structure breaks down from within—and stomatitis, an inflammatory disease affecting the mouth's soft tissues.
Our team is trained to assess each case individually, determining the best course of action to alleviate pain, restore oral health, and improve your pet's overall well-being. We emphasize comprehensive pre-operative evaluations, meticulous surgical techniques, and post-operative care to minimize discomfort and promote a smooth recovery process.
By incorporating advanced oral surgical techniques and compassionate care, we aim to provide your pet with the highest quality dental treatment tailored to their specific needs.
